Review: Wild Joe's Gourmet Beef Jerky - Prime Rib Flavor
The Backstory: Wild Joe's Beef Jerky is a small, family company. Joe Lachenman started in butcher shops throughout the 1970's and '80s. One of the many items he made himself was beef jerky. Eventually, he could not keep up with the orders for his jerky. His customers continually told him that his quality of jerky just was not available in stores. He decided to close his shops and focus on making the highest quality beef jerky he could. (Excerpt from company website)
The Package: Vibrant, resealable package. A clear view of the jerky inside is present, as well as an eye-catching logo.
The Look: Cut sheets of traditional (Cowboy/Trail/Camping) style jerky. The color combination is dark brown and black. A small amount of fat is present.
The Smell: Salt, Worcestershire sauce and black pepper are all present.
The Feel: The dried meat is moderately tender, with no stickiness present.
The Taste: Wild Joe's 'Prime Rib Flavor' variety, is as close to going "Full Cowboy" without actually riding a horse. The large thin sheets of dried beef contain a savory collection of ingredients, that nicely pay tribute to the popular steakhouse cut of beef it's named after. The moderately tender meat yields a solid chewing experience that goes quite well with any light beer.
OVERALL RATING: 4.5 out of 5 = Very Good
